Welcome To Walloon Lake
Walloon Lake is a uniquely charming village on the shores of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. In addition to memorable restaurants and lodging, Walloon offers visitors a one-of-a-kind northern Michigan shopping experience. In the summer months, shoppers will find many unique offerings in the downtown district.
Because it is a glacier-formed lake, the waters of Walloon are turquoise and crystal clear. After the ice melts in the spring, it is possible to see to the bottom of the lake at depths up to 30 feet!
Walloon Waterways
Walloon Lake is rated as being one of the top five lakes in Michigan. Rent a boat, kayak, paddle board or take a wakeboarding lesson in the crystal clear waters – then catch the sunset!

The Hemingway Connection
One of the area’s most famous residents was Ernest Hemingway. The author spent his first 22 summers at the family vacation home on Walloon Lake – or Lovely Walloona, as his sister, Sunny called it. The family cottage still overlooks this glistening lake, but is a private residence now, and only rarely opened to the public.
